We offer 3 types of cone 6 clay bodies for use in the studio, purchased through New Mexico Clay. Clay is marked up slightly to contribute toward cost of studio glaze materials. Mixed glazes are included in class cost. Please ensure you speak with Aria before investing in a glaze if you plan to use something outside of the provided glazes.

Columbine
A porcelain that throws great, has a fairly white color and works with most glazes. Has a slight texture that improves the handling avoid sponging as this makes the clay look rough. Good for dinnerware.

Sandia Red
A semi-smooth red body with sand. Fires paver tile red in oxidation at cone 5 and is more chocolate in reduction.

WH8
A midrange white stoneware with 10% fine white sand. An excellent plastic throwing body. Works with all glazes (except Laguna’s crackle glaze). A great beginners clay as it is very forgiving and easy to throw. Most glazes look bright and colorful on this white clay. This body resists crazing and can be used for small outdoor tile.
